Well the title sums it up nicely, doesn’t it? No? Allow me to explain.
You may or may not have noticed the lack of blog posts recently. I say recently; I haven’t blogged in two weeks. Doesn’t seem all that long ago, but I used to blog daily and so every evening at 9pm, there would be a new post live and ready for you guys to read to get all of your poetic fixes.
Well, I’m hoping to change that.
No, I’m probably not going to blog daily. And I’ll explain why. But I’m definitely going to try and keep up with at least one blog a week.
So what’s been going on?
Well, grab a cuppa, take a seat and let’s have a chat.
Reasons for lack of blog posts/general laziness/other things that keep writers busy or unmotivated:
Come on, you knew this would be on my list.
Of course I’m always picking up extra hours at the day-job. Subway. My typical work weeks average on 40-45 hours, leaving one (two if I’m lucky) day off. Not complaining. I ask for these hours because I need them. But this leaves one day for me to get the majority of my work for my second job done. I’m a copywriter/social media exec. for a small online company.
And if all of that wasn’t enough, I’ve taken on a temporary part-time job in which I am editing a novel. It’s quite an exciting piece of work and I’d love to share more with you soon. But yes, for the next 8 weeks I’m going to be spending any extra time of mine proofreading and editing manuscripts.
Well, you can’t have all work and no play. And what I mean by this is, when I’m not working at Job 1,2 or 3, I’m spending time with family or friends. This usually means visiting the folks for lunch/coffee, binging a new Netflix series with my girlfriend, spooning my sausage dog, or a messy session of live music and wine with friends.
Don’t worry, I’m not at death’s door. But I have been. It seems as though lately I’ve just been coming down with all sorts of shitty colds, bugs and general tiredness. Not sure if it’s all the extra work I’m putting in lately but, to be honest, I take good care of myself – most of the time. It’s like yesterday, I was planning on doing some blogging and editing before my usual Saturday 2-10 shift at Subway but from 12am Sat Morning – 3pm Sat afternoon, I was throwing up on a kind of fucked-up hourly schedule. I didn’t think it was going to stop and at one point I was sure I fractured a rib.
Now, a day later, I’m feeling much better in myself. I’m not sure if I was poisoned or just caught a weird sickness bug. Either way, I couldn’t physically get out of bed to pee. I mean, I did eventually – I had help. I didn’t pee the bed or anything.
So, yeah, my shitty immune system is on the list.

So, when we’re on top of everything else, I am brought back to the realisation that my house… is a shit-tip at the moment. It’s half-decorated and there is stuff everywhere. I own a lot of books, right, and at the moment my stairs is my bookshelf. It’s kind of a nightmare because I’m one of those people who can’t function when surrounded by mess. So, there’s been a lot of shifting bits and bobs, wallpapering, painting, sanding, flooring. Huge thanks to my father-in-law Darren and Ash for all their help and hard work. I pay them well… with love.
Yeah, in general I’ve just had a lack of ideas and enthusiasm to think of said ideas. Every time I sit to try and write a blog post, poem or even just an update to let you all know I’m still alive, I end up scowling at an empty page for hours on end. I’ve just had no words, no motivation, no ideas. I’m hoping that’s about to change.
I suppose I just wanted this blog to be a kind of update for you all. I’m sorry for the lack of posts, I know some of you have been checking back every day for updates and that’s amazing. I am aiming to do two or three blogs a week but there will be a minimum of one weekly. I will also mention that these may not be posted at 9pm consecutively like they used to. Due to my chaotic schedule at the minute, I’m just going to be posting these at random times. I mean, I could schedule them but I like to be active when these blogs post so I can respond to messages and check up on statistics etc. Also, it would be great to see what times posts perform better – it’s always great to boost views, right?!
Anyway, welcome back to the blog guys. Ash Watson Poetry is very much alive (again). Thanks for reading.
Until next time.
