I should probably explain how Ash Watson Poetry progressed from daily blogs, poetry and short fiction to complete radio silence in the past year.

Despite my short break from social media, blogging, publishing and spoken word events, I have found myself to be busier than ever!

So, with my last blog being published sometime back in November/December, January kicked off as my ‘desperately-needed, though short, but continuously extended break’.

In November, my work schedule became something slightly ridiculous. This was due to me running the show at work whilst my manager took off to Florida for three weeks. Oh, and when I wasn’t working, I was chasing down buses to go and visit my girlfriend who I WASN’T living with at the time. Yes, that wasshit. Having lived together for seven years, we had decided to live apart for a month – our new property wasn’t move-in ready when our lease ended so we both moved back in with our folks until then.

Then, all the festivities crept up on me! Myself and my other half found ourselves having a jam-packed Christmas and New Year, visiting friends and family all over the place, and of course enjoying each other’s company as the new year rolled in.In January, we moved in to our new place – our second time moving a house full of furniture in six weeks, and finally we got settled and fully decorated at some point in March.

Throughout these three months, I was undertaking some heavy freelancing work – I’ve edited two novels for Annie Jones – ‘Lennie’ and ‘Frankie’.

I was also starting to feel a lack of motivation at work and felt it was time to move on. Although I enjoyed my time at Subway and met some amazing people, it was only a temporary solution to support my family and I. It was time to start thinking about a career. And so, from January to March, my search began and so did a long (and sometimes disastrous) string of job interviews.

Finally, at the end of March, I received some good news and handed in my notice at Subway and bagged myself a role of Digital Copywriter at a fantastic company. I’ve never been happier, and I find myself super excited as to what the future holds.

Now working a 9-5 Monday-Friday gig, I have PLENTY of time to focus on my own projects outside of work again.

And so, hence, The Resurrection of Ash Watson Poetry.

Yes, I’m aware that I sound like a douche. I don’t care. For the first time in half a year, I have some time to myself to focus on my passion again. I have lots of ideas and plans in which I’ll keep you updated on, but at the moment I want to build my readership back. I miss chatting with you guys and getting feedback on my work – it kept me motivated – it kept my dreams alive!

Anyway, I hope that clears a few things up, and proves that I’m still alive and well. I’m going to be aiming for a couple of blog posts a week, as well as new poems and fiction.

Make sure to check back here regularly for new posts. Follow me on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and the works to be the first to see new posts when they’re published.

Best wishes,
